The French-Ukrainian Journal of Chemistry (FUJC) is owned and managed by Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. The FUJC editorial office acts as the data controller for personal data processed on this journal website.

What we collect and why

We collect and process personal data necessary to operate an academic journal and website, including:

  • Account/profile data: name, affiliation, country, email, roles (author, reviewer, editor).
    Purpose: user registration, authentication, workflow participation, and communication.

  • Submission and editorial data: manuscript files/metadata, author lists and contributions, competing interests, reviewer reports and decisions, editorial correspondence, audit logs.
    Purpose: peer review, editing, publishing, and maintenance of the scholarly record.

  • Publication metadata: author names/affiliations, ORCID iDs (if provided), references, funding notes, data availability statements, licensing information.
    Purpose: article production, indexing, discovery, citation, and long-term preservation.

  • Website/technical data: IP address, browser/user agent, pages visited, timestamps, and functional cookies required for log-in, session management, and preferences.
    Purpose: security, fraud prevention, performance, and essential site functionality.

If analytics (e.g., server logs or privacy-friendly metrics) are enabled, we use aggregated data to improve the site. We do not use invasive third-party tracking unless explicitly disclosed.

Legal bases for processing

We process personal data under the following legal bases (as applicable):

  • Contract-like necessity for submission handling, peer review, editorial decisions, and publication;

  • Legitimate interests in operating a scholarly journal, ensuring security, preventing abuse, and preserving the academic record;

  • Consent for optional features (e.g., linking ORCID, receiving alerts) where requested;

  • Legal obligations (e.g., responding to lawful requests, records retention).

Sharing and recipients

We do not sell personal data. We may share or disclose personal data to:

  • Service providers/processors supporting hosting, preservation, or platform operation (e.g., OJS/PKP-related services, institutional IT);

  • Indexing and preservation services (e.g., Crossref, LOCKSS/PKP PN, institutional or national repositories) to enhance discovery and ensure long-term access;

  • Co-publishing or institutional partners solely for journal operations;

  • Public: article metadata and author details appear on published content by design of scholarly communication;

  • Authorities where required by law.

Where data are transferred internationally, we take reasonable steps to ensure appropriate safeguards.

Cookies

This site uses functional cookies required to operate log-in sessions and user preferences (e.g., session identifiers, “remember me”). Blocking these cookies may prevent you from signing in or completing submissions. If any non-essential cookies or third-party embeds are used, they will be disclosed on the site or at the point of use.

Retention

  • Published content and related records (including authorship, editorial and peer-review history, decisions, and corrections/retractions) form part of the scholarly record and are retained permanently for integrity, accountability, and preservation.

  • User accounts may be deactivated upon request; some data may be retained to preserve the integrity of the record and comply with legal or research-integrity obligations.

  • Technical logs are retained for a limited period necessary for security and operations.

Your rights

Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to access, rectify, or erase your personal data; restrict or object to processing; and data portability. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it at any time (this will not affect prior lawful processing).

Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. No system is perfectly secure; users should also protect their credentials and devices.

Confidentiality in peer review

Manuscripts under review and related communications are treated as confidential. Reviewers are instructed not to disclose or use manuscript information for any purpose other than peer review.
